Twin Lions Contracting & Movember: Making a Difference Together

December 27, 2023

Have you ever thought about how mental health shapes our lives, especially in high-pressure industries like construction and contracting? Here at Twin Lions our main focus is on designing and building custom homes, but this time of year we like to focus on something different yet equally crucial: building awareness for men’s health through the Movember initiative.

Why Movember Matters to Us

Movember isn’t just about growing moustaches; it’s a movement that addresses critical issues like mental health and suicide prevention, along with physical ailments such as prostate and testicular cancer. Since 2003, the Movember Foundation has been a game-changer, funding over 1,250 health projects globally, and demonstrating the power of a focused effort to change the face of men’s health. For us in construction, it hits even closer to home.

Our Journey with Movember

Since 2016 the Twin Lions team has come together annually for Movember, embracing the spirit of brotherhood for a cause even bigger than our construction sites. This year, we’re proud to say we raised $43,718, contributing to our all-time total of over $203K! It’s personal for us, just like the precision and care we put into our projects. Mental Health in Construction: Let’s Talk About It

In construction, mental health often gets overlooked. Old-school building culture, where mental health takes a back seat, is still predominant on many construction sites across the Lower Mainland. And jobs in construction can be challenging – they often involve long hours and high pressure situations, resulting in less than ideal mental and physical conditions. For too long, our industry has shied away from having some of these conversations. But the hard truth is that today, 70% of all suicides are men. At Twin Lions, we believe that it’s crucial to address the lack of dialogue about mental health in our industry. While these conversations can often be intimidating to engage in, we believe in creating a healthy working environment where everyone feels safe to speak up and seek help when needed. Community is a huge part of why we do our work, and we believe that having these conversations in our personal and professional lives can help everyone lead fuller, healthier lives.

Join Us in Supporting Movember

We invite you to join us in this Movember movement and bring much-needed attention to men’s health. Whether it’s spreading the word, donating, or participating in events, every bit of support counts. Together, we can contribute to a healthier, stronger industry and community.
