Summer is in full swing at Twin Lions

A Note from Kevin

With summer officially in full swing, it feels like the right time to step back and take stock of where Twin Lions is at. Like much of our industry, and like I highlighted in the last edition of this newsletter, we’ve had our share of challenges to navigate lately. Permit and municipal hurdles, red tape, market shifts, and cost escalations have all been hurdles we have had to navigate. I’ll be honest though; this quarter has me genuinely optimistic for what’s to come. Our pipeline of leads has never been stronger, some long-awaited projects are finally kicking off with permits now in hand, and that momentum is already showing up in the field.

The best part has been the mix of new work we’ve kicked off: a new custom home and laneway, an upcoming Montessori daycare, and several large-scale renovations, with more in the pipeline behind them. It’s exactly the type of work we love to do, and the kind of variety our team thrives on. It’s a great sign of things to come as we push into the back half of the year and into 2027. Check out the updates on a few of those ongoing projects below.

I am also very excited about the launch of our new internal education and training program, which allows us to keep investing in our people as they grow their skills and careers. This is a significant milestone that has been a year in the making, and I am looking forward to seeing it support our team’s growth. And be sure to check out the recap of our biggest Movember in June Golf Tournament yet. It never ceases to amaze me how our community shows up year after year in support of men’s health. A huge thank you to everyone who played, sponsored, volunteered, and donated.

There’s a lot to be excited about in the months ahead. Thanks, as always, for being part of the Twin Lions community.

Cheers,
Kevin

Project Update: Hyannis

Our Hyannis project in North Vancouver is well underway, and we’re excited to help bring this home into its next chapter. With the existing deck removed and excavation now in progress, the groundwork is being set for major upgrades that will transform how the home looks, feels, and functions. The project includes a large new covered deck, an expanded dining room addition, expansive accordion doors, and a completely new building envelope – all coming together to create a more open, comfortable, and connected living experience. This one is going to be a fun one to watch!

Project Update: Dyck Road

Demo is moving quickly at Dyck Road, and the transformation is already well underway. The home has been completely gutted as we prepare for a full renovation, including a new secondary suite, all-new kitchen and bathrooms, updated plumbing and electrical, new windows, underpinning, and more. It’s always exciting to see the first stage of a project take shape, and with the groundwork now in motion, we’re looking forward to bringing this home back to life and sharing the progress along the way.

Project Update: Granada

Our Granada project has finally kicked off. Working with the talented team at GDP Architecture, we are creating a new custom home and laneway house on this property. Two beautiful high-performance homes that we are very excited to get rolling on. Stay tuned to see this one come to life!

Movember in June: Charity Golf Tournament

Our third annual Movember in June: Charity Golf Tournament was another incredible day on the course, bringing together more than 140 golfers, sponsors, raffle donors, partners, and friends for a cause that means a lot to our team.

Together, we raised over $25,000 in support of Movember, which now brings our total amount raised to over $320,000! This support is helping fund important work around men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. A huge thank you to everyone who showed up, sponsored, donated, golfed, volunteered, and helped make the day possible. We’re proud to continue using this event to bring our industry together, start important conversations, and make a meaningful impact.

Project Feature: Meadowbank

Tucked between the forest and the city, Meadowbank is a contemporary North Vancouver custom home designed to make the most of its unique natural setting.

Located on a sloping, trapezoidal site, this project called for a thoughtful approach to both design and construction. The result is a truly unique home featuring a courtyard, bridge, feature stair tower, vaulted ceilings, and carefully placed glazing that keeps the surrounding trees and natural surroundings in view throughout the home.

It’s a beautiful example of what happens when strong architecture, technical problem-solving, and a clear vision come together. Watch the full Meadowbank project video on YouTube.

Team Celebrations

Recognition Awards
A big congratulations to our Q2 recognition award recipients: Carpenter Lucas, better known around here as “Fish,” and Project Manager Alex! Selected by their peers, Fish and Alex were recognized for exemplifying two of Twin Lions’ core values: Fun and Proud. Both bring a strong work ethic, a great attitude, and a lot of care to the work they do every day. We’re lucky to have them on the team. Congratulations, Fish and Alex!

Thank you, Kaare
At the end of June, we said “see you soon” to Kaare, Twin Lions’ longest-serving employee, as he and his family begin an exciting new chapter on Vancouver Island. After purchasing their first home in Qualicum Beach, Kaare, his wife, and their son are trading city life for island life and moving closer to family.

Over the past 11+ years, Kaare has been part of hundreds of projects and has grown alongside Twin Lions in many roles, from Carpenter to Lead Hand to Operations Coordinator. As the fourth member inducted into the Twin Lions Hall of Fame, Kaare has left a lasting mark on our team and our company. Thank you, Kaare, for everything you’ve contributed over the years. You’ll always be part of the Twin Lions family.

From The Lion’s Den

This quarter, we launched our internal education and training program. This program consists of a full integrated training program for each level, mentorship and on-site training initiatives, and also a program that brings our team together once a month to stay current with changing building practices, learn from industry experts, and share knowledge that supports our work in the field.

Check out the photos from our May session where Andrew Gray, Principal at Inform Engineering, joined us to discuss recent updates to the seismic code and what those changes mean for project buildability, budgets, logistics, and renovation planning. It was an incredibly informative session, complete with pizza and snacks, and a great reminder that the best teams never stop learning.
