Movember 2024: Fighting The Stigma Together
As custom home builders and renovators, we’ve seen the stigma surrounding mental health in the construction industry firsthand, and we feel that it’s our responsibility to do our part to improve the situation.
That’s why Movember is particularly significant to us, we want to help men get the support they need in some of the areas that affect them most:
- Mental health
- Prostate cancer
- Testicular cancer
Whether we are going through something ourselves or know someone who is—the truth is that many tragic outcomes are preventable, with the right support.
If you would like to join our efforts to break the stigma and change the face of men’s mental health, you can donate here. We’re proud to have raised over $240,000 for the cause so far thanks to our generous donors and sponsors, and we want to keep the momentum going.
Movember in June Charity Golf Tournament
As part of our fundraising efforts, we decided to host a charity golf tournament in June to raise awareness for men’s health throughout the year—rather than confining it to just a single month.
And we’re thrilled to say that it was a huge success!
Not only did we manage to raise over $11,000, but the feedback we received from supporters was so overwhelmingly positive that we’re already in the process of planning next year’s tourney.
Of course, this fundraising event would not have been a success without our generous sponsors and donors, so we would like to extend a massive heartfelt thank you for supporting our Movember efforts.
We can’t wait for next year’s event! See you there maybe?
Mental Health in the Construction Industry

The construction industry has a reputation for not creating the best environment to speak about mental health—which can lead to many men feeling isolated and unsupported in their struggles.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, check out this list of mental health resources for guidance.
At Twin Lions, we want to help change the face of men’s health as best we can and work towards building a safe and supportive space. Because despite the overall rise in mental health awareness, suicide rates are still 3 times higher among men.
We hope that by making conscious daily efforts to create a positive environment for the team, as well as raising awareness and money through our Movember events, we’ll get one step closer to reducing preventable deaths.
The TL Dusters Brewery Tour

Even though we organized a fundraising event in June, we knew we had to do something in November too (it is Movember after all…). We figured that most people wouldn’t be super keen on a rainy 18 holes of golf, so we hosted a Brewery Tour instead.
We partnered up with some of North Vancouver’s best breweries, giving participants the chance to win some amazing prizes (like a getaway to Whistler, a grill, and more), just by buying some pints!
Unsurprisingly, this event was a major success as well, and we’re so happy that we were able to raise $1,400 to support men’s health, which brings us to a total of $38,115 this year! Once again, we’d like to thank everyone who attended and donated presents to the raffle—as well as the breweries who participated:
The Takeaway
While there is still a long way to go to fully break the stigma surrounding men’s health, we are proud to be a part of the fight to get us there.
We’d also like to give a special shoutout to some members of the TL Dusters who have been crushing their personal Movember goals:
- Morgan raised $3,920 to cut off his beautiful locks and donate them to the Angel Hair Foundation.
- Tanya worked out 60 minutes a day, rode 60km/week, and walked 60km this month in honour of the 60 men who die by suicide every hour.
- Graham raised $5,730 in honour of a good friend.
We couldn’t be more proud of the team for their commitment to raising awareness for men’s mental and physical health. And we fully intend to continue our efforts for many years to come.
